Success through open source: openPOWERLINK increasingly popular

To date, the openPOWERLINK stack has been downloaded from SourceForge more than 50,000 times. "openPOWERLINK is unique on the automation market as an open source protocol – and that is reflected in the download numbers," notes EPSG Managing Director Stefan Schönegger.

openPOWERLINK is a protocol stack for implementing the POWERLINK real-time Ethernet communication standard. It meets all the requirements of open source software and is suitable for both master and slave implementations.

Free platform selection

openPOWERLINK is a software-based solution. Depending on the requirements, it can be ported to FPGAs, MCUs, ARM or x86 processors. Linux is generally used as the operating system, preferably with a real-time extension. openPOWERLINK can also be used without an operating system or with Windows.

Ready for the Industrial IoT

As an open source software stack that doesn't require any special hardware, openPOWERLINK is an interesting option, not only for industrial OEMs, but for universities and research institutes as well.  openPOWERLINK is available under a BSD license, which grants system developers full rights to the software and makes it the only Ethernet-based industrial communication standard that is genuinely vendor-independent. POWERLINK technology is fully compatible with OPC UA, making it future proof and ready for the Industrial IoT.
